Program Implementation

The program was implemented and designed with the goal of providing quality educational opportunities for youth. A primary goal of the program is to strengthen connections between students, school, community organizations, businesses and professionals. Some key initiatives that were implemented: Assessments and Surveys: Students completed assessments and surveys to explore their personal and professional interest. Youth completed the common measures survey and we utilized educational tools to assess and support the students growth and development. We also focused on tracking progress of the students with individual meetings and grade checks. Youth and Adult Partnerships: We prioritize making sure that the youth voice was present in the implementation. We offered focus groups with youth and parents, met with School Administration, key school staff personnel and community leaders about needs and opportunities to partner. We intentionally sought to have a variety of perspectives to assist in shaping the program and structure. Youth Leadership: We have continued to improve and focus on the leadership roles and responsibilities for our youth Officers. The students that take on leadership roles, take pride in the program and are instrumental in the development and success of the program. Some skills developed by the youth included organizing and promotion of meetings, agenda preparation and program projects, coordinating school events and service projects. Meetings: The program maintained a consistent schedule of biweekly meetings for all members, alongside separate biweekly meetings with the youth leadership team. Program Content: Ensure that information and resources shared with youth are credible and evidence based.

Community Integration

We engaged community leaders, entrepreneurs, higher education leaders, finance representatives and current college students to share experiences during the program. Students have become more aware of the importance of giving back to the community by volunteering at local schools and community organizations that offer support to the community.

Technology Integration

Technology is a large part of the program. Students develop and create activities using technology. We create agendas, interactive lessons & presentations that engage students in learning. Virtual online meetings/programs have provided the opportunity to connect with other groups and resources that would typically be out of reach. Additionally, the group utilizes an online app, approved by the School District of Waukesha called, SportsYou. This app has been a great tool for communication and collaboration.

Sustaining

The lead site coordinator is a full time, ongoing Extension Educator and the program is integrated into his ongoing plans of work and with established partners within the community. The funding allows for expansion into new schools to establish connections and work toward district-wide strategies for potential future funding. Consistent documentation and evaluation is utilized to measure progress and effectiveness of the program. We provide feedback regularly with key stakeholders and highlight impact.
